Stewart Gillmor, PhD

Stewart Gillmor grew up in Connecticut, in the New England region of the United States. He studied Biology at Swarthmore College (Swarthmore, Pennsylvania) and worked in the laboratory of Nam-Hai Chua at Rockefeller University (Manhattan, New York). Stewart did his PhD research in Biology in Chris Somerville‘s laboratory at the Carnegie Institution for Science and in the Biology Department of Stanford University (Stanford, California). He worked at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) (Texcoco, Mexico), and then did postdoctoral research in Scott Poethig‘s laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania). Stewart joined Langebio as a faculty member in 2010.

Stewart’s expertise is in Developmental Biology, Genetics and Genomics of plants. Research projects in his laboratory are focused on early seed development, using Arabidopsis thaliana as the primary organism of study. Stewart also has a long-standing collaboration with Ruairidh Sawers (Pennsylvania State University, USA) in maize genetics.

Dr. Gillmor’s service activities include teaching Genetics in the Plant Biotechnology Graduate Program at CINVESTAV Irapuato, and serving on the Editorial Board of Plant Reproduction.
